Scope
Recent proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT), edge-fog-cloud computing, and interconnected networks envisions that smart cyber-physical systems (CPS), especially smart vehicles (SV), are capable of innovative solutions to change our lifestyles. Unavoidably, the potential benefits come along with new challenges and concerns on security and privacy. The Second EAI International Conference on Security and Privacy in Cyber-Physical Systems and Smart Vehicles (SmartSP 2024) is a global forum for researchers and developers from academia, industry, and government to present and discuss emerging ideas and trends in security and privacy issues in this exciting area. SmartSP 2024 seeks original/invited papers focusing on theoretical analysis, vulnerability discovery, novel system architecture construction and design, emerging applications, experimental studies, and social impacts of CPS and SV. Both review/survey papers and technical papers are encouraged. SmartSP 2024 also welcomes short papers that summarize speculative breakthroughs, work-in-progress, industry-featured projects, open problems, new application challenges, visionary ideas, and preliminary studies.
This year, SmartSP is offering the practitioner track, aimed at enabling researchers without academic backgrounds to participate in academic conferences and scholarly communities. Each participant will be working with a dedicated “shepherd”, providing guidance in transforming their research into an academic paper. For this process, we expect the initial submissions to be as much details as possible and researchers to quickly respond to feedback and submit an updated draft to meet the deadline.
The authors will need to submit a draft paper or detailed write-up in the following file formats (e.g., plain text, Markdown, Word, or LaTeX), which can be supplemented with slides, notes, code, or other relevant materials. All submissions must be anonymized for the double-blind peer-review process, meaning that authors should avoid any mention of author or group names as well as obvious indications of their identity.
Acceptance of final papers may be subject to shepherd approval and will be published in SmartSP’s formal conference proceedings. We expect authors of accepted papers to continue to work with their shepherds, and final papers should adhere to the form of a short paper (up to 6 pages, plus a bibliography and appendices). Authors of accepted papers are optionally encouraged to submit accompanying “artifacts”, such as source code, documentation, and supporting data.
SmartSP 2024 will be an in-person independent event located at New Orleans, LA, which is famous for music, seafood, aquarium, french culture, and others.
Keynote Speech: We plan to have three keynotes, two from academia and one from industry, in order to provide a more diverse perspective of the problem space to SmartSP attendees. We have already confirmed Prof. Kevin Butler from the University of Florida and Danfeng Yao from Virginia Tech as our academic keynote speakers, who are world-renowned for their research in cyber-security. We are now inviting another keynote speaker from the industry.
Demo/Poster Session: SmartSP’24 will feature a demo/poster session (in-person) to allow academic, governmental, and industry participants to present posters and/or share demonstrations of their latest attacks, defenses, and security/privacy tools or systems related to vehicles.
Awards: Accepted papers and demos/posters will be considered for the Best Paper Award ($800) and Best Demo/Poster Award ($200). The winner will receive cash prizes.
Travel Grants: Selected students will be provided with support to attend the SmartSP symposium in person.

Publication
All registered papers will be submitted for publishing by Springer and made available through SpringerLink Digital Library.
Proceedings will be submitted for inclusion in leading indexing services, such as Web of Science,
Compendex, Scopus, DBLP, EU Digital Library, IO-Port, MatchSciNet, Inspec and Zentralblatt MATH.
Authors of selected papers will be invited to submit an extended version to:
- IEEE Internet of Things Journal [IF: 10.6 (2022)] Special Issue on Security and Privacy of Intelligent Vehicles
- Mobile Networks and Applications (MONET) Journal [IF: 2.3 (2023)]
- ACM Transactions on Cyber-physical Systems [IF: 2.0 (2023)]: Special Issue on Security and Privacy in Safety-Critical Cyber-Physical Systems
All accepted authors are eligible to submit an extended version in a fast track of:
- EAI Endorsed Transactions on Scalable Information Systems (ESCI-WoS, Compendex)
- EAI Endorsed Transactions on Security and Safety
By paying an additional $150, authors can publish their articles in the EAI Endorsed Transactions journal selected by the conference (Scopus and Ei-indexed).

The article’s publication is subject to the following requirements:
- It must be an extended version of the conference paper with a different title and abstract. In general, 30% of new content must be added.
- The article will be processed once the conference proceedings have been published.
- The article will be processed using the fast-track option.
- Once the conference proceedings are published, the corresponding author should contact us at [email protected] with the details of their article to begin processing.
Additional publication opportunities:
-
- EAI Transactions series (Open Access)
- EAI/Springer Innovations in Communications and Computing Book Series
(titles in this series are indexed in Ei Compendex, Web of Science & Scopus)
Paper submission
Papers should be submitted through EAI ‘Confy+‘ system, and have to comply with the Springer format (see Author’s kit section). All the submissions need to be anonymous.
- Regular papers should be up 12-20 pages (content) in length. (excluding appendices, references, appreciation,…)
- Short papers should be 6-11 pages (content) in length. (excluding appendices, references, appreciation,…) with the title prefix “Short Paper: ”.
- Practitioner papers should be 6-11 pages (content) in length. (excluding appendices, references, appreciation,…) with the title prefix “Practitioner Paper:”.
- Demo/poster papers up to 4 pages. Demo/poster papers must have the prefix “Demo:”/“Poster:” in their titles.
All of those papers must be submitted to a “Regular track”. All conference papers undergo a thorough peer review process prior to the final decision and publication. This process is facilitated by experts in the Technical Program Committee during a dedicated conference period. Standard peer review is enhanced by EAI Community Review which allows EAI members to bid to review specific papers.
